Childrens furniture comes in many different varities, types and colours; High Chairs, Combi-High Chairs, Playpens, Changing Tables, Beds, Bunk Beds, Cots, Closets, Shelves, Safety Gates, Tables or Chairs. The design and the raw materials used in childrens furniture varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Two of the most widely common used raw materials which are used for childrens furniture are solid wood or plastic, although solid wood tends to be a higher quality product. Also, the type of wood used determines the difference in quality of each product. The most expensive is childrens furniture which is made from solid beech. Childrens furniture in the lower price range are usually made from pine or rubber tree.

There are different guidlines and norms which apply to the production of childrens furniture. There is a different norm for the production of each piece of childrens furniture but the handling of the surface is the same for them all (DIN EN 71-3). This means that the surface of childrens furniture has to be treated with an environmentally friendly, wated-based varnish. Childrens furniture has to be produced in this way in order to eliminate any chance of danger to babies and small children. Therefore, Germany and Europe only approve childrens furniture which complies with the corresponding guidlines and norms.

Because Childrens furniture, as the name implies, is for children, the most noticable difference from regular furniture is of course the size. Childrens furniture is built in such a way that children are able to comfortably to use it without having to climb on a chair. This means that childrens furniture is small and particularly lower than regular pieces of furniture. Since children especially like bright and colorful things, each producer have to take this into account when designing their furniture.

As a rule, childrens furniture differs according to the age of the child for which they are suited. Where a room for a baby comprises of a cot, changing table and dresser, the room grows with the child. So that parents don't have to refurnish their little darlings room as they age increasingly more manafacturers and designers are focusing on making furniture that grows with a child. Whereby the height of a childs high chair can be adjusted , the length of a bed can be varied and a changing table can be turned into a set of drawers. Because children aren't always mindful of their furniture it has to be robust so that is can withstand every tantrum. It also has to be safe to adjust in order ot avoid injury. For this reason sharp edges and corners have to be avoided during the development stages. Since children also like to arrange their room along the theme of their favourite TV show or movie, these are often worked into the design of the furniture. This means that children can always let their fantasy and instinct to play run free. Through this furniture the childs room is not just a bedroom but also a play room where your children can go wild with their friends.
